FAQs:
Attention:
Windows Vista user: please download and install iGuard Utility V3.5 or later iGuardView V4.0 or later to ensure compatibility!
| Q1. I forgot my passwords how can I
retrieve it?
There are four different types of password
for the iGuard system: Web Server/ Firmware Password, Device/Hardware(Netility) Password, iGuardView Client Application Password, and the Master Password
1. Web Server/Firmware Password: This is the password you use
to login from your browser. For V2.50 firmware the default login name is "admin" (lower case) and the password is the same as the Master Password which is printed on the serial number label (All CAPS). For V2.51 and later firmware, the default login and password are not
defined and should be left blank. If you choose to define the login name and password and you forget or lose it, you can use the Master Password to retrieve it (see Item 4 below). Or you can refresh the firmware if you know the device password. Download the firmware and use iGuard Utility to upload it into iGuard. Once completed, the Username
and Passwords will be reset to default (blank).
2. Device/Hardware (Netility) Password: This is the
password you use to setup iGuard via iGuardUtility program or when you want to refresh your firmware.
For V2.50 firmware, this password is the same as Master Password located on the serial number label on the back of
the iGuard. For V2.51 and later firmware, this password is not
defined. You can change this password under "IP
Configuration/Advanced" in iGuardUtility. Once defined the IP address in the iGuard Utility will not be displayed. You can use the Master Password to retrieve the device password if you lose it after it was set(see Item 4 below), . The device password are not implemented on iGuard 300 series.
3.iGuardView Client Application Password: This is the password that you use to login to the PC client software that allows you to monitor and record all iGuard cameras. You can use the
admin account to setup multiple accounts so that users with
different privilege level can use iGuardView to monitor the
camera. By default, the login is "admin" and password is not defined (blank).
Once defined, you will have to
uninstall iGuardView and reinstall it if you lose this password.
4.Master Password: This is the password that is printed on the serial number label. You can use this password to retrieve your lost/forgotten Web Server and Device (Netility) Passwords following the steps below:
In your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, etc.) please enter:
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the iGuard and ### is the HTTP port number that is assigned to the unit. By default the HTTP port number is 80 and you do not have to type it in if it has not been changed.
You can find the IP address on the LCD screen (for IP-101S, IP-210E, IP-250E) or through the iGuardUtility (for IP-220E, IP-230E, IP-280E). You may have to click on the "Launch iGuard" button to find the IP address and port number in your default browser.
Please note each segment of the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address may have less than 3 digits. When that occurs, enter only 1 or 2 digits. (Example of IP address: 123.123.1.12)
If the network is setup properly you will be prompted with a login screen (see sample screen below):

Enter login ID and password:
ID is "admin" (lower case).
Password is the Master Password (ALL CAPS) from the iGuard serial number label.
Click "Continue" button.
If the login is correct, the next screen will display all the Web and Device (Netility) passwords assigned to the iGuard. To reset all the passwords, click on the "Clear" button.

In situations where more than one condition listed below exists, you may need to send your device to an authorized service center for password retrieval. A service fee may apply:
- You set and lost your web login password
- You set and lost your device password.
- You set and lost the manually assigned IP address
- You set and lost the HTTP port # other than 80

Q2. I get an error message, when I click on
ActiveX button next to the camera A or B button

Click on the top margin, and install ActiveX. Confirm
"yes" if prompted. Make sure you allow Active X components under Tools/Options/Security settings.
Note: Some third party web browser, such as Firefox, does not support ActiveX script, you will have to use Sun Java to view the camera.
|
| Q3. I can connect to the camera's web manager, and
ActiveX components are properly installed, but I still get the "Server has no response" Message

This is due to your firewall setting in your router or server . iGuard uses UDP port 9001 by default to stream video from the camera. Your security setting has to allow traffic on this port at both ends, remote and locally. If you have troubles to see your camera from work, you will need to contact your IT department to open the port. (good luck on that...)
|
Q4. Can I view video or images from my web enabled Mobile Phones or PDA?
Yes. Sort of. Since mobile IE does not support Active X plug--ins, streaming
video in real time is not supported on Pocket PC devices with the software included. But you can
use web-enabled mobile phones or PDA to see static images and update the images
manually. Or you can setup the iGuardView to send recorded video clips to your PDA or Smartphone via email and then play back the video on your mobile device. The following steps are for viewing images directly on the cameras with V2.52 firmware and above. Please referred to the user's guide for email notification.
First in your browser type http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/image.cgi (where xxx is the WAN IP
address or your Domain Name). You will then be directed to
the login page;
Enter your Login Name and Password. Click Apply

Click on either "Camera A" or "Camera B" to download the
images.
For PDA's with Windows Mobile 2003 and earlier or PALM OS (Treo), the default JPEG image viewer is IE. So you will get the following screen
Click on refresh to update the image and use the "UP" "DOWN" "LEFT" "RIGHT" button to control Pan/Tilt operation if applicable. Note, the image maybe reversed if you have mounted the camera "up-side-down".
For PDA's with Windows Mobile 2005 and later, the behavior will be a bit different, since the default JPEG viewer is set to "Pictures & Videos" (P&V) instead of Internet Explorer. You will get the following screen:

The size of the file depends on the resolution that was set in the camera firmware under Basic Settings --> Camera Settings. The default file name is "showimg_pda.jpg", click Save As... to change the file name and save location and the image will be opened in Pictures&Videos:
and
Note, you may have to rename the file to continue downloading and saving the images. You will also have to switch back and forth from IE to "P&V" to control the camera and view the images.
Q5. Can I use other USB Camera to connect to iGuard?
Yes, provided that the camera is using VIMICRO and Sonix chipset. You will have
to check with the manufacturer of the USB camera. Currently, about
60% to 70% of the cameras produced in China uses these chip. Please <click here> for a list of unverified compatable USB cameras
|
| Q6. What is the effective length of the USB cable?
The USB specification states 5.0m is the effective USB cable length from
source to source. Or you can increase that length by adding active (self-powered) USB hob. There are active USB entension cables that goes up to 60 ft.
|
| Q7. What is the effective length of the RJ-45 cable?
The Standard effective length per RJ-45 cable is 100m. As in the USB case, you will need a
hub to extend the length, up to a maximum of 480m.
|
| Q8. Can I use iGuard outdoors or under bright conditions?
Most iGuard models except IP-390E are
designed primarily for indoor, low light conditions. For outdoor use you will need a
protective housing. Another issue that has to be considered is the limited "effective auto-exposure" range of the CMOS sensor. You may have to use adjustable-iris lens to off set the "white-out" over exposure under strong light conditions. Avoid pointing the camera towards Sun light, say southeast ot southwest if you in north hemisphere Make sure to set the light source to "outdoors" too.
|
| Q9. Is the camera capable of zooming by adding a zoom
lens?
You can add a zoom lens, but will have to adjust the zoom manually.
Only digital zoom is supported in the web manager.
|
| Q10. My iGuard is connected to a Router and I can see
it in LAN but I can't access it from the Web? How do I set
up iGuard for the web?
That is because your iGuard is connected to a router. This
situation is similar to the phone system in you office.
You have one incoming line but you have 10 extensions.
How can an outside caller reach your extension? You
either have to have a live operator or an auto-attendant to
switch the calls. You have to do the same thing here.
Most modern router available today has an built-in "auto-attendant"
which is called "Port Forwarding " or "Network Address
Translation (NAT)". Following is just brief description of the procedures. This is for your reference only, please call the manufacturer of the router for support.
(a) Logon your router (you need your administrative
password)
(b) Go to the section labeled "Network Address Translation(NAT)", "Virtual Server", "Gaming", or some similar terms. forward TCP port 80 and UDP port 9001 to the
internal IP address of your iGuard and make sure that
the TCP port is not currently used by your router or other web based devices, otherwise choose a
different port.
(c) If you have more than one iGuard on your network, you
will have to assign a different TCP and UDP ports to each iGuard and
forward these ports to the appropriate IP addresses of the
iGuard.
Please check the "Router Programming" section for some common routers on the market today. Please refer to your router's manufacturer's website for latest updates.
(d)Locate your external IP: You can find your external IP in your router or by click here This is the IP address you need to use on remote PC.
Q11. What should I do if I have an internet
service with a dynamic IP?
If you have a consumer level internet service, whether DSL or cable service, your IP address will change over time. You can either manually keep track of this ever changing IP address or you can sign up for a DDNS service. Here is how:
(a) Sign Up DDNS service: This is a two-step process, you will have to create an account on www.iguard.com first, and then register each camera under your account.
(b) Enable DDNS Service: From your PC log-on to your iGuard as Administrator.
Under "Basic Setting/Network" enter your username
and password for your iGuard.com account. Make sure the
"Use Public IP to Register" is set to "Yes" Then Click "Apply"
located at the bottom of screen.

(c) Now you can monitor your camera through
www.iguard.com's log-in screen without having to remember the exact IP address of your camera.
Note: Please allow 5 minutes for the DDNS server to be
updated with your Current WAN IP.

Q12. I'm connecting
iGuard to a DSL modem by itself, how do I set it to access the internet?
1. Make sure that PPPoE section in
iGuard is setup to connect to your ISP, and;
2. Make sure that Dynamic DNS in
iGuard is setup.
|
| Q13. I still cannot access iGuard Web Manager from outside. I
have opened up all the ports.
1. Check that your Router and iGuard are not both using
EXTERNAL / WAN port 80. If it is, change one to another EXTERNAL
/ WAN port.
2. Some ISP blocks port 80 to discourage web hosting in order to save bandwidth. You will have to use a different port to see the camera. Make sure you change the port setting on both the camera and the router.
3. If you changed iGuard default HTTP port 80 to another say,
port 8080. Then you will have to redirect your web browser by
typing http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 where http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is iGuard IP address.
|
| Q14. There is no Port Forwarding Section in my Router.
Different Routers have different setup for this section. In
general, a more advanced router will allow you to forward an External / WAN port to an Internal
/ LAN port . You can assign
an internal port number to be forwarded to a different external port
number.
However, there are also Routers which can not do this or has limited port forwarding function, such as your
internal port = external port. Please check with your router's manufacturer
on how to open the port for your router.
|
| Q15. I setup the Email Server (SMTP) but I can't seem
to receive any emails.
Make sure your DNS setting under "basic setting/network" is properly set and that you SMTP server allows "email relaying" and your Internet Security Software / SPAM software does
not block outgoing emails. Also please check "Junk Mail folder".
Note: iGuard does not support web-based emaill system such as hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc..
|
| Q16. What bandwidth is required by iGuard?
The average "Bytes of Image per Frame"
is between 4Kbytes - 9Kbytes. This size is determined according to
color saturation of the image captured. Therefore, the "Frame per
Second" (FPS) = "Data transmission rate" (in Bytes/s) divided
by "Bytes of Image per Frame" (Bytes/frame)
You can check your current FPS setting
in iGuard. Network --> Account Settings --> FPS (default is
10)
At 10 FPS and 320 x 240 resolution, iGuard will need about
40Kbytes - 90Kbytes of bandwidth. Most broadband service will accommodate this requirement.
NOTE:
bps = bits per second (8 bits =1 Byte)
Most ADSL throughput speed varies, and is dependent on distance and
environmental constraints. In most cases the actual throughput
is only about 75%.
If you are using 56Kbps dial-up, your average speed should be
around 4 Kbytes/sec - 6 Kbytes/sec
If you are using 512Kbps ADSL, your average speed should be around
40 Kbytes/sec - 50 Kbytes/sec If you are using T1 (1536Kbps) ADSL,
your average speed should be 120 Kbytes/sec or higher.
If you are using 2M (2000Kbps) ADSL, your average speed should be 160
Kbytes/sec or higher.
Q17. How
much space will it take for the recording?
Well, it depends on the image size, streaming rate (fps),
and the video codec you are using. The following table
will give you an estimate for the amount of recording time
(hour) a 80GB hard drive will take for 640 x480 and 320 x 240
image size under normal network condition.
|
Video Codec |
640 x 480
(Hour) |
320 x 240
(Hour) |
| Intel IYUV |

1800 |
| Microsoft
MPEG-4 V2 |
560 |
2240 |
| Divx 505 |

As you can see the
windows default codec (Intel IYUV) gives you the least compression ratio.
Please download the appropriate codec for your desired
compression ratio.
You can find a number of free codec on the following website:

Q18. Is there anyway I can install iGuard wirelessly?
For iGuard 200 series IP cameras, the only way to connect to a WiFi network is through a wireless bridge. We recommend using 802.11G routers/bridge configuration to assure enough bandwidth is allocated for video streaming.
For iGuard 300 series IP cameras all you have to do is attaching a compatible USB wireless dongle to the USB port on the camera. Please <Click Here> for a list of compatible USB wireless dongles. |

iGuardView
Managing just one iGuard within a LAN can be easily done with the above web
interface. However, when there are more then one
iGuard, management of these is a lot trickier and cumbersome if the web
interface continues to be used.
iMultiView is a software that seek and list out all the
available iGuard in a LAN. If needs be, the user
can also list iGuard located on the internet here.
iGuardView allows the user to;
- Monitor and manage multiple cameras.
- Set motion detection for individual cameras.
- Drag & drop camera icon to desktop, and view as and when need.

iGuard Utility
iGuard internal IP address can be easily located by looking at the
LCD. But, this becomes cumbersome when you have more than one or if
iGuard is fixed to a hard to get location.
iGuard Utility is programmed to locate and list all the iGuard IP
in a LAN. The user then highlight the unit and click 'Launch
iGuard' or double click the IP address to launch the
iGuard Web Interface.
iGuard Utility allows the user to;
- Locate iGuard IP address.
- Perform a step by step setup.
- Launch iGuard Web Interface.
